Setar is an Iranian musical instrument. The word "Setar" means "Three String" in Persian. It originated in Persia Afghanistan around the time of the spread of Islam to that country and is a direct descendant of the larger and louder Tanbur. The Setar has 25 - 27 moveable frets.
